Mya’s Story

In April 2015 we heard about a Pyr mix in the Cleburne TX Animal Shelter. She had been a street dog all her life and had had several litters of pups but Cleburne Animal Control had been able to catch her this time while she was pregnant. In fact, she had given birth to her litter while in the Shelter. The Shelter was looking for a rescue group that would give her a chance at having a good life. We answered the call and Mya arrived at Lifesavers via volunteer transport shortly thereafter.

Mya had survived on the streets of Cleburne by being tough and very cautious with humans. We had to earn her trust. It took a while but after months of working with her she came around and in November we put her on Petfinder. We knew it would take a special person to give her the home she deserved. In January 2016 we received an email from a lady in Vermont that was attracted to Mya because the picture posted reminded her of a dog she had previously. After a short time of corresponding we realized that this was the place for Mya and soon after she traveled by private transport from Texas to Vermont to meet her new Mom and start her new life.

Mya and Mary Lee met short after and what has happened since is truly amazing. Mya the former street dog has adapted to her new home very well due to the love and commitment of Mary Lee. She has had several “firsts”: first walk in snow, first walk in the rain with a slicker to protect her, and first relationship developed with a cat (she and Tab share a bed and Tab even washes her face). She has come a long way from fending for herself on the streets of Cleburne TX.

The bottom line is Mya has the home she needs and Mary Lee has the dog she was looking for. They are a perfect match. Tab the cat just rounds out the mix. Together they make a beautiful family. We are most proud of them.
